Week 3-Post A

pg. 76-113
Vocabulary
1. (pg 92) hackneyed: made commonplace or trite; stale; banal
2. (pg 92) perfidious: deliberately faithless; treacherous; deceitful
Figurative language
1. "Summer was a crappy, almost-full-time job." This is a metaphor because it is comparing summer to something without using like or as. It is saying that some was boring and a lot of work.
2."And was greeted by a fucking zoo of tiny pills." This is a metaphor because it is comparing this container to a zoo, when really you can't have a "zoo" of pills.
3."She clung to me like a child, sobbing and ugly." This is a simile because "like" is being used to compare two things.
Quote
"What, like keeping up with my AP courses, acting as the student rep to the PTA, volunteering at the National Honor Society, taking Kaplan prep courses on the weekends, and having my phone send me test questions instead of love letters isn't enough?" This quote is important because it is showing that the main character is trying so hard in school but still worrying about her grades and getting into college.
Theme
(pg 97) "Enough. I had to concentrate on the problems I could solve." This is a theme in the story because it is saying that one should focus on the things they can do and not focus on the things they cannot or else they will get down on themselves.
